September 27, 2005

Greetings.  I can honestly say that there hasn't been a dull moment, lately..  Hurricanes, politics, death, destruction, and other assorted unpleasantness have surrounded us, but we will survive..
I have been very fortunate, and I am extremely thankful for having family, friends, and a home..  There are many people who are suffering, and will continue to suffer because of these tragedies.. Please remember them in your thoughts and prayers..
Last week was a wonderful time as far as the gigging situation..
The League Of Decency rocked the house (or should I say tent), at "A TASTE OF ATLANTA", which was held at Lenox Square..  We recently added a new keyboard player, and this was his first gig with us..  His name is David Ellington, and he moved here from New Orleans..  The guy is remarkable, and a wonderful addition to the group..  The band sounded awesome, and will only get better..
After the gig in Atlanta, we traveled to Bluffton, South Carolina for a wedding reception on Saturday..  It was a fun time, and I made it back home in time to play with George Hughley and the Colored Boyz on Sunday at Leisure's.  That club is really cool, and it is great to play music with these guys every Sunday night..
Thursday night is still party night at Monterrey's Mexican Restaurant on Buford Highway in Doraville..  It is the home of my regular solo acoustic gig, and every Thursday, during my performance, the restaurant features frozen margarita specials: $9.00 pitchers, $4.00 jumbos, and $2.00 regulars..
Great food, (especially the fajita quesadillas), and cold beer await you..  The song list remains wide open, and can range from Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, to Hoobastank and Green Day..  The past few weeks have seen songs by Harry Chapin, Neil Diamond, Bad Company, Poison, Chi-Lites, America, and Drivin n Cryin..  I never have a problem mixing it up, because that keeps everything fresh..  It is always a great party, so start the weekend early and enjoy great food, tasty margaritas, and your favorite tunes.. Music starts around 7:30 - 8:00 p.m.  Come on down....
Sunday night is a great night for Blues, Soul, and R&B music at Leisures night club, located in the Marshall's shopping center at the corner of North Hairston, and Memorial Drive near Stone Mountain..  It has become home for George Hughley and the Colored Boyz, and the music brings back all those great memories of better times..  George is one of the best entertainers I have ever worked with, and I am constantly amazed at his vocal skills, and his musical repertoire.  I've always loved R&B, and this is a wonderful project where I get to play all the songs I listened to as a child on A.M. radio..  Spinners, Chi-lites, Ojays, Ohio Players, Sly and the Family Stone, Tyrone Davis, Bobby Bland, Bill Withers, B.B. King, and Commodores are just a few of the groups we are covering.  The band also features Joe Tucker on Bass, and Bill Stewart (Gregg Allman, Delbert Mcclinton) on Drums.  Bill is currently rehearsing with Lee Roy Parnell, and the Capricorn Rhythm Section to play some shows very soon..  I'm looking forward to hearing them..  Leisures is a really cool club, and you should check it out on Sunday night, and listen to some great music.  The show starts at 8:00 p.m., and we play till midnight....
The League Of Decency will be performing at some benefits for the victims of the hurricanes in the next few weeks..  We are schedule to play Sunday, October 2nd in Little Five Points along with King Johnson, and several other bands in the afternoon..  We will also be playing at Fuzzy's Place on Sunday, October 9th in the afternoon..  We also have a gig scheduled at Jake's Toadhouse on October 14th..  These gigs are all open to the public..  I am very excited about the League, and if you want to hear some bad ass horn players and cool tunes, you need to check it out..
I will be performing with the Ron Kimble Band at Glenda's Bar and Grill in Walnut Grove on October 7th and 8th..  I have played gigs with Ron for the last 10 years, and I am looking forward to working with him for a whole weekend..  Be ready for anything, cause Ron likes to mix it up as much as I do..  I have a solo gig scheduled in Doraville on October 29th, during the afternoon, and will probably play at Monterrey's that night..
I hope to see you at some gigs in the future..  Thursdays at Monterrey's, and Sundays at Leisures are regular, every week gigs.  Plan to come out and participate in some partying action with yours truly..  That is all of the news for now....  Stay tuned....
