September 14, 2005

Greetings.  It is hard to believe we are in the middle of September, with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas right around the corner.  With temperatures expected to be in the 90s this week, it doesn't feel very much like fall..  Last week was lots of fun, and a very busy one for me..  I had a great time with Heaven Davis at the Yellow Daisy Festival in Stone Mountain Park..  It is always a blast playing with Marty Kearns, and we had John Schwanky (ex Delta Moon) on Bass for the show..  The band sounded great..  It was so hot, sweat was dripping off my fingertips!!  Heaven's new c.d. is doing quite well, and is being played all over the country, and over seas..  I look forward to many more gigs with her..   http://www.heavendavis.com

Thurday nights are still a great night to have some frozen margaritas, and fajitas at Monterrey's Mexican Restaurant on Buford Highway in Doraville..  It is the home of my regular solo acoustic gig, and we always a good time every week..  I have been performing there on Thursdays for over a year, and it never gets old..  The song list is always wide open, and can range from Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, to David Bowie and Green Day..  Lately it has included Poison, Bad Company, Bread, Drivin' & Cryin', Willie Nelson, and Harry Chapin..  I love it all, so I don't have any problems mixing it up..  Start the weekend early, and come to Monterrey's on Thurdays for the best margaritas in town, and listen to your favorite tunes.  Music starts around 7:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Sunday night at Leisures has become a weekly gig for George Hughley and the Colored Boys.  George's new c.d., recorded at Audio Cam with Rick Hinkle, is doing extremely well in Germany, Japan, and England..  He is a great singer, and a wonderful entertainer..  I've had the pleasure of playing with George in several situations over the years..  The band also features Joe Tucker on Bass, and Bill Stewart (Gregg Allman Band), on Drums..  Bill is currently putting a project together with Leroy Parnell, and will be playing gigs very soon..  This band sounds great, and we play lots of Blues, R & B, and Soul music..  I am having a blast, because it is one of the few situations that I get to play some of my favorite music that I grew up listening to..  Bobby Bland, Tyrone Davis, Spinners, Chi-Lites, Ojays, Bill Withers, B. B. King, and Cameo are all groups that we are covering, and many others.  Leisures is located in the Marshall's shopping center at the corner of North Hairston and Memorial Drive, not far from Stone Mountain.  Music starts at 8:00 p.m., and we play till midnight..  This is a nice club, so you should check it out sometime..

The League Of Decency will be performing at A Taste Of Atlanta on Friday, September 23rd.  This event is open to the public, and a rare opportunity to catch some bad ass horn players..  We play lots of jazz, swing, pop, and dance music to please the masses..  The event will be held at Lenox Square near Buckhead..  Check out the website at www.tasteofatlanta.com

Gigs in the future include several corporate functions with the League, in town, and out of town.  I will be performing with the Ron Kimble Band on October 7th and 8th..  The League Of Decency will be appearing at Jake's Toadhouse on October 14th.  I also have a solo gig at Doraville Days on October 29th, during the afternoon..

I hope to see all of you at some gigs in the future..  Thursdays at Monterrey's, and Sundays at Leisure's will be happening for a while, so plan to come out and listen to some music!!  That is all of the news for now...   Stay tuned..
