Greetings.. Summer is in full swing, the temperature is hot, and things have been heating up on the music scene.. I recently performed with the League Of Decency at Jekyll Island with Heaven Davis. We had a great trip, and the band sounded great.. I will be performing with Heaven at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens on July 20th, when we open a concert for Delbert Mcclinton.. The League will be playing at Trilogy, in Marietta, on Friday, July 13th.. Trilogy is a very nice place, with a sports bar, restaurant, and a nightclub for live entertainment.. I will also be playing a Bar Mitzvah with The Beacons on July 28th.. Now, that should be interesting.. I have never performed at a Bar Mitzvah.. I have been playing several gigs with Ron KImble, both with his band, and as an acoustic duo.. The duo sounds wonderful, and we have been playing at Hank and Jerry's Tavern every Sunday night, and at Rudy's Bar and Grill every Tuesday night.. We also host an open mic every Tuesday, so we have had some pretty diverse performers showing their talents.. MOTION got together for a rehearsal at Southern Tracks Studio a couple of weeks ago, and the band sounded great.. We were fortunate to get to use the studio, because Bruce Springsteen has been in town recording with Brendan O'Brien.. We went over quite a few tunes with our new singer, Chris Warren.. I am
looking forward to rocking again with Motion.. We will be booking gigs again very soon.. I've also been getting calls from some different restaurants and clubs about me performing solo acoustic music.. I've been buying some new gear to get ready to perform at these venues.. I also had some amps retubed by Doug Head (Amp-Head), and they sound great.. When you gig as much as I do, you have to stay on top of your gear or it will break down at the worst time.. Thanks to Doug Head and Jim Patillo for helping me keep my stuff working.. Heart Strings will also be playing some more gigs, very soon.. I am looking forward to playing with George Calhoon, Jimmy B, and Anne Scott again.. Now, on to other news..
One of my favorite guitar students, Thomas Brown, was killed on his way to a guitar lesson with me 3 weeks ago.. It has been a devastating loss for me, and everyone who knew him.. Thomas was a remarkable young man, and a very talented guitarist.. He was very involved in his church, and was a very kind, caring person who will be missed very much by me.. He was one of those students that make teaching worth while.. He was only 17 years old, and I had the honor of teaching him for over 3 years.. Please remember his family in your thoughts and prayers, because it has been very difficult to accept this tragedy..
Thursday nights are still a great way to start the weekend early at Monterrey's Mexican Restaurant on Buford Highway in Doraville.. It is the home of my regular, solo, acoustic gig and is always a lot of fun.. Margarita specials, great Mexican cuisine, and cold beer in frosty mugs await you.. I am constantly updating the song list, and you will hear just about anything you want to.. The food is great and the service is outstanding.. It is what keeps the regulars coming back every week.. Music starts at 7:45 p.m.. Come on down!!
The Acoustic Duo featuring Ron Kimble and myself performs every Sunday night at Hank and Jerry's Tavern in Conyers.. Between the two of us, we know literally thousands of songs, so you never know what you are going to hear.. The duo sounds great, and it is a great way to cap off the weekend.. Listening to acoustic music in an intimate atmosphere is really cool!! It is one of my favorite musical outlets.. The music starts at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday's at Hank and Jerry's.. The duo also plays at Rudy's in Grayson every Tuesday night, where we host an open mic.. We've had some good performers sit in, and it always makes for an interesting evening.. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday's at Rudy's..
